The Ghan - Onboard
The north-south transcontinental journey covers 2,979 kilometres and encounters spectacular and diverse landscapes; from the rusty reds of the MacDonnell Ranges surrounding a town called Alice, gateway to Ayers Rock and the Red Centre, then north to Tennant Creek, Katherine and the tropical splendour of Darwin.
Facilities
Visa, Mastercard and Bankcard only are accepted. Guests are advised to bring cash (AUD $) for the journey to buy drinks, snacks etc. if they do not hold any of these cards. Travellers Cheques are not accepted and EFTPOS is not available.
- Gold Kangaroo Lounge
The relaxed setting of the Gold Kangaroo Lounge offers an excellent place to socialise and meet fellow travellers from all corners of the world or sit back and enjoy the passing parade of Australian landscapes. The Lounge has a licensed bar and is the ideal place to gather for a drink before dinner or for a game of cards and a nightcap with new friends.
- Red Kangaroo Lounge
Guests travelling in Red Kangaroo Sleeper Cabin and Daynighter Seat have access to the Red Kangaroo Lounge. Sit back and relax, enjoy a drink or socialise with new found friends. Video games and entertainment are available in the Lounge. It's a great way to travel.

- Gold Kangaroo Twin Cabin
Choose from: Twin or Single Sleeper Cabin
Twin Cabins feature 3 seater lounge converting to upper and lower sleeping berths plus ensuite facilities with toilet, washbasin and shower. Hair dryers are available (small deposit).
Single Cabins feature a lounge chair converting to single sleeping berth with shower and toilet facilities located at the end of each carriage.
Both cabins are fully serviced by carriage attendants with fresh sheets, pillows and doonas. Receive complimentary toiletry bags and an onboard magazine. Feature 3 pin/ 240 volt power point, wardrobe, full length mirror, reading light, foldaway table. Guests receive a Certificate of Travel and 'collector' stick pin upon disembarkation.

- Gold Kangaroo Deluxe Cabin
Ideal for guests seeking a little extra style, space and comfort.
The Deluxe Cabin is twice the size of a Gold Kangaroo Twin Cabin and offers a small double bed plus additional fold down single bed. Extra features include a private lounge area with table, arm chairs, a dvd player plus a selection of titles, dressing gown, slippers, Deluxe compendium, Deluxe toiletries, complimentary Haigh's chocolates, fruit bowl, plunger coffee, a bar-fridge stocked with complimentary refreshments, reserved seating at dinner or optional room service for meals and a complimentary bottle of wine with dinner. Availability is limited so advance bookings are essential. A surcharge applies for the Deluxe Cabin: $590 per cabin per night (valid until 31.03.07)

Sleeper Cabin’s are comfortable, twin share day cabin converting to upper and lower sleeping berths at night. Seating comprises 2 facing lounge chairs with private washing facilities in cabin. Cabins feature 3 pin/ 240 volt power point, wardrobe, vanity mirror, reading light, foldaway table. Toilet and shower facilities are at the end of each carriage. Hair dryers are available (small deposit). Guests receive a complimentary on-board magazine.
Note: guests travelling alone may be required to share a Sleeper Cabin.
- Red Kangaroo Daynighter Seat
These are comfortable recliner lounge chairs with generous leg room. Guests receive Individual reading light, video entertainment with toilet and shower facilities at the end of each carriage. Hair dryers are available (small deposit). Towels and soap are provided but guests need to bring their own rug and pillow. Guests receive a complimentary on-board magazine.

- Red Kangaroo Diner & Buffet
The Red Kangaroo Diner offers affordable and tasty light meals, snacks and drinks for purchase. Limited special dietary light meals are available (please request when you make your booking). The Diner is fully licensed. Snacks and light meals are also available for purchase throughout the day from the licensed Buffet Car.
