Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive into Cairns in time for your cruise, which departs at 2.00pm. This afternoon, visit one of the local islands or coral cays before the ship sails north towards the Ribbon Reefs. (D)
Day 2 This morning’s destination is the magnificent No. 5 Ribbon Reef. Snorkel, dive, join the glass bottom boat tour and listen to the waves from the Coral Sea cascade over the outer edge of the reef. After lunch, arrive at Cooktown where you can join a tour of this historic settlement or explore at your own pace. Make sure you don’t miss the James Cook Historical museum. (B,L,D)
Day 3 Today, we anchor in Owen Channel sheltered by the dramatic cliffs of Stanley Island in the Flinders Group. Your guided island tour will be led by a Stanley Island elder who joins the Reef Endeavour crew for this voyage. (B,L,D)
Day 4 After the mutiny on the Bounty, Captain Bligh and his officers were cast adrift in an open boat in the South Seas. Today, Reef Endeavour anchors at Bligh Reef where Captain Bligh found passage to sheltered water. Enjoy amazing snorkelling opportunities and glass bottom boat viewing. (B,L,D)
Day 5 There is probably no other place in Australia with a history longer or more colourful than that of the Torres Strait. Our Thursday Island tour includes the Torres Strait Museum, Japanese Pearl Divers Memorial and Green Hill Fort. At lunchtime, we head for Cape York. The ship’s tenders will take passengers ashore at Frangipani Cove. (B,L,D)
Day 6 Today, we make our way around Cape Grenville to Morris Island. This island offers the only safe anchorage for many miles and is frequently used as a safe haven by yachts. (B,L,D)
Day 7 Lizard Island is dominated by the 366 metre high ‘Cook’s Look’ and, weather permitting, there is an opportunity to climb the peak. Enjoy a spectacular day of swimming, snorkelling and diving. (B,L,D)
Day 8 On arrival in Cairns, check into the Mantra Trilogy Hotel and get the chance to explore Cairns at your own pace. (B)
Day 9 Some say the best has been saved for last – an overnight rail journey from Cairns to Brisbane in premium Queenslander Class on The Sunlander. Relax and swap stories with your fellow travellers in the Lounge Car, before enjoying a superb three course dinner. (B,L,D)
Day 10 Arrive in Brisbane. (B,L)
