Be fascinated by the legends of Longreach and Winton as you unravel folklore from tradition when you explore these two outback gems. Investigate the role quintessential outback characters – blacksmiths, swagmen and drovers – played in rural Queensland as you pour over materials at the Stockman’s Hall of Fame.
On your journey to Winton you’ll be spellbound by the world’s only record of a dinosaur stampede, dating back 95 million years, before the Waltzing Matilda Centre captivates your heart and mind. Stunning sunsets, colourful yarns and a 100 year old pub complete a legendary tour.
Itinerary
Day 1
Depart Brisbane on Spirit of the Outback and relax as you travel through ever changing scenery.
Day 2
Upon arrival, take a Longreach Welcome tour. Enjoy some leisure time before joining the Longreach Welcome Barbeque. (D)
Day 3
This morning, discover the challenges of teaching over the airwaves at The Longreach School of the Air, explore the Australian Agricultural College, soak up the history of the Stockman’s Hall of Fame, then step back in time touring the Qantas 747 and 707. Savour sunset nibbles and happy hour drinks under the wing of aviation history prior to dinner this evening. (B,L,D)
Day 4
Departing for Winton, our tour takes us to Carisbrooke Station’s colourful Cory’s Range. Among the eroded edge of the Tully Range, take a journey back to the Cretaceous Period – a time when dinosaurs ruled the earth. Mid afternoon, we return to Winton to learn about the legend at the multi-award winning Waltzing Matilda Centre. Return to Longreach late afternoon. (B,L,D)
Day 5
Discover the challenges of station life this morning at Longway Station, 15,000 acres of real Australian outback. Experience the bustle of the Longreach Saleyards. Travelling on to Ilfracombe, we retrace the historical stock routes and experience Queensland history at the Wellshot Hotel, one of the oldest pubs in the outback. In the afternoon, soak up a spectacular outback sunset with the Drover’s Dinner Extravaganza. (B,L,D)

Board Spirit of the Outback for your return journey to Brisbane.

Arrive in Brisbane.
