From Cairns you’ll discover paradise in every direction. Discover the colourful coral of the Great Barrier Reef before hopping onboard the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway that winds through the mountains taking in the awesome force of Barron Falls.
You’ll easily fall in love with this tropical paradise and its endless array of adventurous and leisurely activities to satisfy every mood.
Then relax on the way home as you view the passing scenery from the comfort of The Sunlander.
Itinerary
Day 1 Welcome to Cairns, the gateway to Tropical North Queensland and the World Heritage Listed Great Barrier Reef and Daintree National Park. On arrival in Cairns you will be met and transferred to your accommodation, where the rest of your day is free to relax and settle in.
Day 2 Coach transfers from your hotel will take you to Hartley’s Crocodile Adventures, a long established wildlife park. Enjoy a unique eco experience on the lagoon cruise through the ecologically significant Melaleuca wetlands; the domain of the saltwater crocodile. Explore the rest of the park with its abundance of wildlife and be amazed at the Crocodile Attack Show. After all the excitement of the day, you’ll be taken back to your hotel.
Day 3 Today you visit the mountain village of Kuranda. Getting to and from Kuranda is all part of the adventure, starting as you join Kuranda Scenic Railway for an enchanting 90 minute journey winding through dense, tropical rainforests and the spectacular Barron Falls. After exploring Kuranda it’s time to join Skyrail Rainforest Cableway for your return journey to Cairns. (B)
Day 4 Enjoy a day at leisure. You may wish to join another day tour, relax at your hotel, visit Rusty’s Markets, the local art galleries or the Botanical Gardens. (B)
Day 5 The Barrier Reef is calling today. After breakfast, board your cruise boat for the 45 minute journey to Green Island. Enjoy a glass bottom boat tour and use snorkelling gear to get up close and personal with the marine life. With its unique reef and rainforest environment, this beautiful island provides the one-stop tropical experience. (B,L)
Day 6 An unforgettable journey begins after breakfast as you board The Sunlander and are taken on one of Australia’s longest running and most endearing rail journeys. For over 50 fabulous years The Sunlander has weaved its way along Queensland’s east coastline. (B)
Day 7 Sadly your journey comes to an end as The Sunlander pulls into Roma Street Station in Brisbane.
