Take a deep breath of fresh, crisp air as you explore subtropical Lamington National Park on its many walking tracks, then feel on top of the world as you indulge in a social drink and the magnificent sunset over the Great Dividing Range.
The world’s largest sand island then awaits you with its endless wonders.
Discover pristine in-land lakes, striking peaks of coloured sand and a seemingly endless golden beach that stretches before you, interrupted only by fresh water creeks and the island’s famous Maheno shipwreck.
Itinerary
Day 1
Travel to Australia’s largest subtropical rainforest – World Heritage Listed Lamington National Park. Enjoy a brief tour of the facilities, then take the time to explore the magnificent rainforest and its many hidden attractions. Discover the famous “Tree Top Walk”, enjoy a glass of sparkling wine on the balcony of your room, or join the social Happy Hour in the Rainforest Bar, while admiring the spectacular sunset over the Great Dividing Range to the west.
Day 2
Start the day with the O’Reilly’s famous Birdwalk and meet the hundreds of birds that visit each morning to feed around the Guesthouse. Then choose from a selection of guided 4WD bus excursions, interpretive rainforest walks or adventure activities. In the evening, join a nocturnal spotlighting or glow worm walk, or just relax in the lounge and learn about the fascinating history of the O’Reilly family and Lamington National Park. (B)
Day 3
Enjoy an early morning breakfast prior to checking out and departing for Kingfisher Bay Resort on Fraser Island. You’ll be taken to Brisbane in time to connect with the Tilt Train to Maryborough, where you’ll then be transferred to Urangan Boat Harbour for your afternoon catamaran transfer to Kingfisher Bay Resort. After the cruise across the Great Sandy Strait, you will be welcomed to Australia’s leading ecotourism resort. (B)
DAY 4
Start your day with a hearty breakfast before joining the “Beauty Spots” full day 4WD ranger-guided eco-tour of the Island. Discover amazing pockets of rainforest growing in sand, crystal clear freshwater lakes, shipwrecks and coloured sands. You’ll drive along one of the world’s most spectacular highways – 75 Mile Beach, and learn the fascinating history of Fraser Island. On return to the resort late afternoon, stroll along the beach, watch the sun set over the sea while sipping champagne or marvel at the stars of the southern sky. (B,L)
Day 5
After breakfast, the catamaran departs for Urangan Boat Harbour to connect with your coach transfer to Maryborough – in time for the Tilt Train back to Brisbane.
